England

We were in England recently visiting our daughter Anjali with our son Raj . Anjali arranged a boat trip in canals for 1 week. There are canals in western part of England and Wales which were used for transport and commercial use before motor vehicles era.

They are about 2000 miles long. We rented 2 boats . These boats are like floating mobile homes with bedrooms, kitchen & showers facilities. They are easy to ride & run on diesel fuel. They cover about 4 miles an hour. Canal go through towns and villages and you can stop anywhere for dinner or shopping. Boats have TV & WiFi. Lot of people live in these boats year round & they moore their boats any where . Canals are about 20 to 30 feet wide & 4 feet deep in the center. There is walking path next to the canal called toe path. You see nice farm land , mountains and lakes along as well. They are rented for about 100 pounds a day . Two or three families can easily accommodate in one boat. We were 4 adults and 2 children in one boat. Raj has a separate boat for himself with 2 adults and 2 children. Most of the time, we cooked and ate in the boat itself. It was a fun vacation for the family and close friends.
