Nepal

I am in Nepal for a urology conference as faculty. Yesterday visited Bhaktapur Durbar Square (also called Bhadgaon Durbar Square) This is one of the three major royal palace complexes in the Kathmandu Valley of Nepal — a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is located in Bhaktapur city, about 13 km east of Kathmandu, and was once the capital of the Malla Kingdom until the 15th century. The square is famous for its well-preserved medieval architecture, intricately carved wooden temples, stone sculptures, and pagoda-style shrines.

Key Highlights 55-Window Palace: A masterpiece of woodwork built by King Bhupatindra Malla. Golden Gate (Sundhoka): Exquisitely decorated entrance to the Taleju Temple complex. Vatsala Temple: Made of stone and dedicated to the goddess Vatsala Devi. Nyatapola Temple: Nepal’s tallest pagoda temple, symbolizing strength and stability. Pottery Square: Nearby area where traditional pottery is still practiced. More : Bhaktapur Durbar Square beautifully showcases Newar art, culture, and craftsmanship, giving visitors a glimpse into Nepal’s royal past and traditional urban life. It remains a living museum of medieval Nepalese architecture and culture.
