Helsinki(Finland)

Today since the morning we are on a city tour of Helsinki. We passed by beaches, the sea is frozen. Can't tell the land and sea apart Sibelius park. Dedicated to Sibelius the most prominent music composer in Finland. The National library, voted The best library in the world. It is indeed an amazing place, a three storey building with amazing spaces to enable you to be creative. Studios where you can do all sorts of things. Stitching, music, play chess, workshops, etc. You can even take a nap

We arrived this morning by the overnight train to Rovaniemi in the Lapland region. The Arctic landscape is beautiful. Miles and miles of trees fringed with snow. The trees look like lace and the landscape is magical. Our rooms tonight are like igloos. Saw some interesting Arctic animals in a park safari which we walked through Today we enjoyed a reindeer slide as well as a husky dog sled ride over a frozen lake. A visit to Santa Claus village which was very cute Today we were on an icebreaker cruise. The ship crushing the frozen sea as it moves along A plunge in the Arctic ocean Walking and playing on the frozen ocean The snow castle Today we arrived in Tromso, in Norway. We visited the Polaris museum where we were advised about Arctic wildlife and effects of global warming. We saw a seal feeding and training show. Views of Tromso as we land, But to the naked eye they are nowhere as spectacular as visible from the camera lens. Today the whole day we were on a cruise of spectacular scenery, snowy mountains, fjords all the way with a lot of whale watching too. The icing on the cake was some northern lights in the evening. 4pm is pitch dark, the moon and the stars are out and so are the northern lights. Dawn is around 10 am and we hardly see the sun We are in Oslo. A city tour of Oslo. The highlight of today is a visit to the Vigeland Park to see the Vigeland sculptures. There are 121 of them mostly of bronze. Vigeland is the most important sculptor of Norway. The statues are of bronze symbolizing humanity and human nature, union of man and woman, family, emotions and relationships devoid of external trappings of society, religion, etc. That is why they are all in the naked form. The bronze statues are either in movement form or stationary. We are in Oslo. A city tour of Oslo. The highlight of today is a visit to the Vigeland Park to see the Vigeland sculptures. The monolith has 123 figures carved The royal palace, the Nobel peace center where the Nobel peace prize is decided. The Parliament house, embassies, university building, Opera House, The city hall where the Nobel peace price is awarded. In the evening we visited the national gallery where it was a joy to see many original art works. Also there are lots of lakes, parks and islands. We are in Bergen, the second largest city of Norway after Oslo. A city surrounded by mountains with lovely old wooden buildings. Beautiful views of fjords from the airport as we approach Bergen Absolutely gorgeous views of Bergen city from the top of a mountain A truly beautiful bus ride from Bergen to Flam past beautiful fjords, frozen lakes, mountains. Every twist and turn revealed some magnificent scenery. The temperature was -22 C Then there was the fjord safari. We went in open boats on the fjords in icy wind with temperature around -20 C. Truly froze up but the scenery was fantastic and truly worth it with frozen waterfalls, majestic mountains and jaw dropping cliffs rising from the sea. Dinner at Flam was pretty exciting. A five course norwegian viking dinner which included reindeer meat, salmon, etc. Each course accompanied by a special beer to complement it. Non drinkers has special apple juice Today was a spectacular journey from Flam to Oslo one of the most scenic train rides in the world. Its journey's end and tomorrow we leave from home.
